Ascent Trip Report

We depart at first light but the day doesn’t get off to a good start when a farmer drives across the valley in 4x4 to challenge us apparently thinking we might be rustling his goats, once we explain we’re climbing the mountain he leaves happy.

Enjoyable route up the broken rock of the N face reaches summit plateau with buildings and radome. Open gate in fenced enclosure accesses summit area where millitary personel offered us a lift we couldn't refuse back to the Khasab Airforce base for questioning. Back at the base we explained the concept of Prominence and World Ultra mountains, had our sketch maps copied, were provided with drinks, offered lunch and after agreeing not to climb Jebel Harim again allowed to leave. Apparently despite the lack of any signage this is a 'restricted area' and we shouldn't have been there.

The highest point of the mountain is currently a building site and about 80m S of, and on ground about 3m higher, than the radome.
