The Kodiak Island Borough of Alaska, despite its name, includes a large strip of land located on the mainland of Alaska. The boundary of the Borough follows the rectilinear public survey township lines as it staircases along in a northeast-southwest direction. One of these township lines passes about 120 horizontal feet east of the summit of Mount Denison, and the indistinct point where this line meets the peak's east ridge marks the highest point in the Borough.

Those who climb Mount Denison and want credit for a county-equivalent high point should head east on the highest ground for a bit (conditions permitting) to claim the Kodiak Island Borough.
