This long list of peaks includes virtually every significant Sierra Nevada summit. Unlike other Sierra Club lists (Hundered Peaks, Desert Peaks, Lower Peaks), this list has been relatively stable for many years. This is largely because all these summits are on public land such as National Parks and National Forests, and therefore access can not be closed.
However, in January 2008, Caltech Peak was added to the list, the first change in decades. After that, Pilot Knob South was removed from the list due to access issues. So now the list stands at 247 peaks.
All of these summits are in California, with the exception of Mount Rose, near Lake Tahoe in Nevada.
Completing this list would be an impressive achievement and the hallmark of a truly experienced California mountaineer.
