List Description

This list is largely based on the work of John Biggar (, who is the world's leading authority on the true elevations of the peaks of the Andes. Given the lack of good large-scale maps in much of South America, he has done an excellent job of determining which peaks belong on this list. The peak latitude-longitudes and range classifications where calculated from other sources.
