List DescriptionThe Canadian Shield is one of the flattest large areas on earth, and Ontario makes up a large chunk of this vast landscape of endless lakes and low hills. This list of the highest summits in Ontario shows that they are mostly in several clusters--northwest of Thunder Bay, a few groups near the northeast shores of Lake Superior, and in the Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater area. Oddly, this last cluster has the fewest summits on this list, but includes the highest.
This list was generated using the Ontario Basic Mapping (OBM) GIS Web Service. I queried the "spot elevation" layer to get all points over 630 meters. There may be closed contours without spot elevations that this procedure would have missed, so this list may not be 100% complete. The vast majority of these summits are not named. If the peak was identified on the OtterTooth.com list (see link below), I used the name there. Otherwise, a simple "Peak XXXX", where XXX is the elevation, is used for unknown peaks.
Credit must go to Brian Back of OtterTooth.com who did a lot of research that aided in compiling this list. Links OtterTooth.com - Ontario's Highest Elevations Ontario Basic Mapping
