List Description

The United Kingdom recently re-organized its local goverment, and the end result was 230 divisions, as follows:

• England: 150 areas: 46 unitary authorities, 36 metropolitan boroughs, 32 London boroughs, 35 counties, and the City of London.
• Wales: 22 unitary authorities (former counties now gone)
• Scotland: 32 unitary authorities (former counties now gone)
• Northern Ireland: 26 district councils (gone are the 6 traditional counties)

I have been able to collect together for this list the high points for 98 of these 230 areas, including 51 area high points for England, 24 for Scotland, 18 for Wales, and 6 for Northern Ireland. This includes most of the larger and historically well-known areas such as counties, and omits many of the small metropolitan boroughs.

I am unsure if London is now considered one unitary authority or not, now that there is a single mayor. If that is the case, then the total number of areas would be 198, of which this list has about half (98) of the high points. The high point of metropolitan London is the northwest slope of Botley Hill in the London Borough of Bromley.
