My first hiking experience was boot camp in the Marine Corps. I always loved the outdoors, but growing up in the suburbs with suburb parents, my outdoor adventures included swimming pools and skateboarding, and cross country running in high school was the most "outdoors" experience I had. In the Marine Corps I was able to SCUBA, kayak and a bit of rock climbing in Okinawa, Japan. After I left there, I was stuck back in suburbia until I moved to San Diego. I started out at Cowles Mountain and just about died on it going up. I've been in love with hiking ever since.
My girlfriend and I are now training to do the Appalachian Trail in 2014. We hope to complete the San Diego 100 Peak List. |
