Ascent Trip ReportWe left our Oyster Pond condo with the intent of hiking from Quartier d'Orléans to the summit by the hiking trails our maps were indicating. Unfortunately, trying to find the trailheads proved difficult and we didn't want to park a rental car in the back alleys of a remote neighborhood of the island. That felt like inviting theft, which it seems is not quite rampant but rather common on the island.
So having failed at our first plan, we drove north around the island towards Colombier, where trails head off from the maintenance road that winds up to the summit (it is capped by 5 communication towers powered by a huge motorized generator). Again, finding any trailhead proved fruitless, so we drove all the way in the dead end. From there we could see a trail going towards the summit. Walking there took around 5 minutes and we gained probably about 30 meters of altitude. The views are quite interesting from the top, but that summit is definitely not worth the hike, except to check it off a list.
