Ascent Trip ReportWe climbed the 6 day (includes descent)Machame--Mweka Route to the Summit of Kilimanjaro. We encountered nearly every type of weather condition, except sun, on the climb. Basically it was 6 days of rain, freezing rain, and snow. When we began the summit attempt, however, the skies were clear and the stars were indescribably beautiful. It was the most striking sight that I have ever seen! Nevertheless, well before we reached Stella Point (where you are supposed to see the most awe-inspiring sunrise on the planet) we were in a blizzard. This blizzard lasted until we were a considerable distance down the Mweka Trail. Though we did not know it at the time, we crossed paths with actress Jessica Biel and her group. They summitted shortly after we did. i am not certain as to the distances up and down--the descent is a short, straight shot down so its about 37-38 miles up and 12-13 miles down.
