Ascent Trip ReportI had a fascinating drive up the mountain to "see" Spruce Knob. I was at the end of a long day of driving that included 3 other state highpoints. It was already dark, but having many miles yet to go, I decided to check this one off my list even if I didn't actually see the view.
I proceeded up the mountain in the dark, amidst drizzling rain. Swirling mists billowed across the road and wrapped around my car as I slowly climbed my way up the dirt road. There was an almost eerie silence. When I finally got to the top, I proceeded out to the overlook and looked out in the darkness. Beautiful! Despite not seeing a thing, the whole scene with falling rain and swirling mist was beautiful. I locked that memory in my mind and proceeded down the mountain to find a free place to stay - which I finally did on the back porch of a church.
