Ascent Trip Report

Matthew flew in from California for the weekend and we started hiking in Friday afternoon on the Downey Creek trail. The trail was mostly cleared for the first 6 miles except for a few big blowdowns. The bachelor creek trail was in good shape up to 3500ft where we encountered patchy snow. The snow was continuous from 3,800ft. Luckily the snow covered all the bushes and slide alder and the bushwhack was easy and painless. We reached Cub Lake at 9:30pm and set up camp.

We left the next morning and reached the Dome-Chickamin col in a whiteout, but it cleared on the other side. The bergschrund had a nice snow bridge and was easy to cross. We dropped to the Dome-Sinister col, then kicked steps up an easy snow slope on the NW side to gain the ridge at a rap anchor. From there it was an easy snow climb to the summit.

We downclimbed, then went back up to do Dome Peak. The snow extended all the way to a point about 15ft directly below the summit. It was a quick scramble to the top from there. That night we camped out at Cub Lake again, then made it back to the trailhead the next morning.
