Ascent Trip Report

This was a private hike with George Christiansen of these two DPS peaks. From Blythe, we head north on Lovekin, left at Midland to the power lines where we turned north on a dirt road. The dirt road was in pretty good shape. Any high clearance vehicle could make it to the trail head. We had two tracks, Mat Kelliher and James Morehouse. From the parking spot we headed east along the south edge of a deep gully to a point where we could safely descend into the gully. After about a little over a mile from the trail head, we realized we were on James Morehead outbound track. We decided we didn’t like that so we headed up a steep slope to Mat’s track, reaching it at a point of 2640’. From there we headed up to the saddle between the peaks, turned left to Big Maria then back and up to False Maria. We decided to head down following James’ track down. This turned out to a very steep descent into a gully just south of the gully we went up. We followed this gully out to point where we had descended into the gully. In retrospect, we probably would have better off following Mat’s track.
