Ascent Trip ReportStarted my 3 day Berkshire/Taconic Trip at the Race Brook Falls Trailhead. The trail up to the Race Brook campsite was well packed down. I made camp at the established campsite. As I began to set up my tent, I realized that there was no way to stake it down on the wooden tent platforms. Since the weather forecast was good and I saw clear skies, I opted to just put my pad and sleeping bag on the wooden platform and enjoy a night under the stars.
I started the next morning with the usual oatmeal and hot chocolate, packed up camp, and headed for Mt. Everett. The trail continued to be well-packed and I didn't need either snowshoes or crampons for anything. The view from the top is nice. I could pick out Bear Mtn, Round Mtn, and Mt. Frissell to the south. I would be seeing them up close later in the day. Everett is the most isolated mountain in MA. From Everett, I was on to Mt. Race via the AT!
