Ascent Trip Report

NOTE: This is called Rainbow Wall by the locals

Following oak creek canyon is a fun challenge requiring good rock skills (class 3-4) and comfort on steep terrain. There are several places where one must walk up slopes with angles about 50 degrees. The rock is solid with good traction, but one needs decent shoes and the mental ability to do this even when it appears to defy gravity.

Once one gets far enough up the canyon to begin climbing the north wall to the pass at about 6275ft, it starts off steep but soon gets more gradual. Once one hits the pass one will see a well worn and well marked (with cairns) trail. In winter when it goes around on the north side of a major hill (that can't be climbed over or passed on the south), the snow and ice can make things very difficult (I was sinking to my waist in snow over uneven terrain). Once past the that hill and back on the ridgeline, the remainder (maybe a quarter mile) was relatively easy. As with most summits in Red Rock, the views are outstanding.
