Ascent Trip ReportThe eruption which started October 1, 2004 caused the mountain to be off limits to climbers for nearly two years. When the national monument decided to allow climbers again, I was lucky enough to find a party with an extra pass and joined them for the climb. What a fabulous day it was. We essentially watched as the mountain was growing, taking photos of big rockslides down the sides of the cone with huge plumes of dust and ash rising sometimes high above the rim. We were able to glissade several times on the descent.
