Ascent Trip ReportAnne and I both got new snowshoes the day before and needed to break them in. Neither of us had done a winter 4k before and hadn’t even done a winter hike so this was an experiment. We knew this wasn’t a long hike so we didn’t leave the Boston area until 8am. We got to Waterville Valley and got to the trailhead around 11:30. I was testing out my new Tubbs Flex Alps and I decided I love them. Excellent traction and I was surprised how much the lifts help on the accent. We made the summit and had a quick snack and headed down before getting too cold. We took 2:30 to hit the summit and 1:10 back down the trailhead. The snow makes for a really pretty hike and I agree winter is the correct way to do Tecumseh as I could see this being a boring hike in the summer.
We didn’t have any problems staying warm except for Anne’s feet. She’s had frostbite many years ago so that’s why it’s a problem now. Anybody ever use footwarmers?
I guess I hike in winter now. Smile This was #22 overall for me.
