Ascent Trip ReportWe only made it in half a mile on the three mile "drive" to the trailhead from Temple Bar Road. The road part of the hike, which continued for about 2.5 miles past the trailhead was pretty good, though it did merge with the main wash a couple times towards the end.
From there (the water tanks), the main trail apparently headed up the main wash to the southwest (even though it could have gone more directly taking the wash going north west). When reaching the ridgeline that way, one comes up south of Peak 5043. We headed around the west side, but it was not a good route, and we ended up climbing most of the way to the summit anyway. If I had it to do over again, I'd have tried to go around the east side, but Lori suggested going over the summit would have been easiest.
Once past Peak 5043, the ridgeline works well the rest of the way (the other summits involve little downclimbing).
The view from the summit was fantastic!
On the way down we took the canyon northwest of Peak 5013 for a little while then headed south into the canyon west of Peak 5013. It was a great route - not only more direct, but less bushwhacking too.
