Ascent of Haut-du-Sec on 2009-12-30| Date: | Wednesday, December 30, 2009 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | | Peak: | Haut-du-Sec | | Location: | France | | Elevation: | 515 m / 1690 ft |
Ascent Trip ReportOften wrongly assumed to be the highpoint of the French region of Champagne-Ardenne (the real highpoint is Bois de Baissey a little to the south).
This hill is accessed from the motorway near the town of Langres (junction 6). Turn off and head west to the hamlet of Pierrefontaines. The telecom tower is already obvious from the motorway. Drive through Pierrefontaines, up the hill until the crest of the road. An access road for the telecom installation heads right (north)and can be followed on foot, through a gate to the fence around the summit compound which is very flat. Whether you are exactly on the highpoint is a moot point since it is not the highpoint of anything in particular. The views are open but rather uninspiring (at least in winter).
