Ascent Trip Report

Since the weather forecast changed for the better, I scrapped a plan for a rainy hike to Waumbek and instead did Flume and Liberty. I was hiking with Carl again and got an early 8am start to the hike. We were a little afraid of going up the slippery Flume Slide Trail but went ahead and did it anyway. I had read that it was wet most of the time anyway so we’d hope for the best. It turned out to be okay, we just had to take our time and pick our paths carefully. Thank God for the trees to grab onto! I was surprised that we didn’t go up the slide that I had seen in all the photos of Flume. We got to the summit of Flume and had a long lunch break. After expecting crappy weather we were thrilled with the clear views in all directions. It was cool to look around and see all the peaks we had already done. We had long breaks on both summits before heading down. We would see a total of five other people and one dog on the entire trip. I'm not counting the odd couple we met at the end of the hike in the parking lot. The girl just walked up to us and started raving about a zip line thing they had just done. She just kept talking about it like she was a salesperson, giving us rates and everything we needed to know. Kinda freaked me out.

But anyway, these were #17 and #18 for me. We finished the hike in time to get us to the Woodstock Inn to watch the final quarter of the Patriots-Ravens game. Yay Pats!
