Ascent Trip Report

A moderate road/trail hike from Meat Camp Road .... 4 miles, 1150' gain, 2:40 hours RT for both peaks.

I used the route (up and back) from Meat Camp Road (going over Snake Mountain) in Ken Oeser's TR which is still good and is all one needs. This is the descent route shown by the GPS track in Bradley Reese's TR. As we know time has a way of changing access (as is the case here), so I am adding this TR only to update/detail today's TH situation.

Rose and I found our way to Ken's TH - the Meat Camp Road private-driveway across the road from the entrance to the Elk Knob State Park. We parked at the State Park, a very popular place.
The driveway has a locked gate with a "No Trespassing" sign. We were earlier told by a local truck driver (in the xmas tree business) that the Halls no longer live there, "No one lives up there, that's why the road is locked."

I stepped through the wooden fence and climbed the paved-private-driveway west for .25 miles to a switchback to the right (36.33067,81.69968). I went right to the house at 50 yds and found no one home. The house did look abandoned, confirming the truck driver's information.
On the south side of this switchback, just right of the white shed, is the start of Ken's trail to the summit. It climbs south to a height-of-land then bends right (west) to the N-S ridge. It is a moderate climb to the ridge and at this time of year a superb hike - all leaves on the ground except for the oak, great views.

We started our drive back home by finding our way to I-81 Northbound, with the usual plan when driving long distances to bag a few peaks on-route.

"DONT ARGUE WITH AN IDIOT ... PEOPLE WATCHING MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE."
