Ascent Trip Report

We set out with the plan to climb Sleeping Beauty and possibly Erebus behind it if we were up to it. Things worked out in our favor because we were able to drive right in to Dacy Clearing to start, rather than starting from the parking area on Shelving Rock Rd. and hiking the 1.6 miles in to the clearing. This was the first time I've been able to drive in there and there was plenty of parking. Be warned though to take the road slow because it's only really wide enough for 1 vehicle at a time and you may need to find a way to pull off if someone's coming the other way.

The hike itself was quick. We were at the "summit" (the popular open lookout that is often thought of as the summit) in about 45 minutes. I always like how this trail is nice and wide open towards the bottom and gets more closed in with some great switchbacks as you really start to gain elevation. Trail was mostly dry and it's very rocky. Nick, his dog and I had a beautiful day for this. Seemed like peak foliage looking out over Lake George.

From here we kept going on the trail to the true summit and over, heading towards Bumps Pond and on to Erebus.
