Ascent of Montagne du Pavillon on 2008-01-26| Date: | Saturday, January 26, 2008 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | | Peak: | Montagne du Pavillon | | Location: | Canada-Québec | | Elevation: | 1089 m / 3576 ft |
Ascent Trip ReportI left the parking area near the bridge over Montmorency river early, around 7am. I had packed a heavy load for training, and was carrying both my skis and snowshoes. I used the skins for a while on route 33, then reverted to going on with the wax only as the glue didn't hold under the skis.
When I got to the bridge crossing over Belle Fontaine stream, I left my skis and heavy pack for a summit hike in perfect powder. Most of the young trees in this logged area were under the near 4 meters of snow that had already fallen this winter. This made for some scary snow pits because of the irregular density. I postholed along a small underground tree into so deep snow that I could barely reach my pole that had fallen inside.
All in all, a really cool day, and another Laurentians 1K peak bagged.
