Ascent Trip Report

I left the parking area near the bridge over Montmorency river early, around 7am. I had packed a heavy load for training, and was carrying both my skis and snowshoes. I used the skins for a while on route 33, then reverted to going on with the wax only as the glue didn't hold under the skis.

When I got to the bridge crossing over Belle Fontaine stream, I left my skis and heavy pack for a summit hike in perfect powder. Most of the young trees in this logged area were under the near 4 meters of snow that had already fallen this winter. This made for some scary snow pits because of the irregular density. I postholed along a small underground tree into so deep snow that I could barely reach my pole that had fallen inside.

All in all, a really cool day, and another Laurentians 1K peak bagged.
