Ascent Trip ReportStarted from the Spruceton PA at the end of CR 6. I followed the blue DN trail up to the bridge pver the kill, and then took the red DP to the summit of West Kill. No views from the overlook due to the fog.
I then descended back to the bridge on the DP and followed it east to the enormous cairn marking the herd path to SW Hunter. The path is in fairly decent shape, and was easy to follow to the summit. I then made the asinine decision to bushwhack down to Diamond Notch from the summit. I highly recommend against this as the upper reaches are thick evergreens, and the lower reaches, while more open, are choked with deadfall. I ended up trending too far south following the path of least resistance and had to ascend 300' back up to the notch and down to the PA.
All told, I clocked 10.9 miles, around 3500' (Thanks to the hike back to the notch...), and 6ish hours. The weather was cold and clammy, but not overly miserable. No snow anywhere...
