Ascent Trip ReportFrom Station du Sancy, N45 32 31 E2 48 59. Follow wide track S a short way, then head up steep grassy slope keeping R of the gully. Higher up, a ridge develops: follow it (half-left) until ground levels off (fine view of waterfall). Head SSW across level grassy ground to reach clear trail which ascends R (wooden steps) to reach a dip in the NW ridge - fine viewpoint. More steps lead to summit.
Summit is a built platform with viewfinder. The only trig we found was a small bolt (typical pattern of cross-hairs and concentric circles). Fine summit with steep drops, although too hazy for distant views.
There were patches of soft snow on the trail in places but no need for axe or crampons, although we brought some winter gear just in case.
A weekend trip: we flew into Lyon Sat a.m., 3 hour drive to trailhead.
Sunday we visited Montagne de l' Aigoual, Mont Lozere and Mont Mezenc before flying back to London late evening.
