Ascent Trip ReportNEO40, Shawn, Paulo, and Beth.
We left from the trailhead at 6:30am.
Trailhead is at the end of Haystack Road (FR304) off Route 3. Haystack is a dirt road that is 2.3 miles west of the town of Twin Mountain.
Start Day1: The North Twin Trail leaves the parking area, makes 3 stream crossings and ascends to North Twin Mountain in 4.3 miles. Stream crossings were tough due to icy slippery rocks. We put on our microspikes to get across.
Took the North Twin Spur trail, 1.3 miles to South Twin Summit and the junction of the Twinway. Weather and visibility were excellent.
Followed the Twinway trail for 2 miles to the Bondcliff Trail Junction.
Took Boncliff trail for 1.3 miles to Mt Bond.
From Mt Bond to Bondcliff 1.2 miles Unbelievable views.
Return from Bondcliff to Mt Bond 1.2 miles
From Mt Bond back North to the West Bond Spur Trail approx 1.2 miles. Mt Bond Spur Trail 0.5 miles out and back for a total of 1.0 miles Sun was starting to set so we headed back to
Guyout Campsite spur to spend the night. We had to stop and watch the sunset on Bondcliff trail. Setup tent in darkness.
Total mileage day 1: 13.6 miles (about 10 hours)
Sunrise: 6:30am Sunset: 4:30pm
10 hours of hiking, 10 hours of daylight what a coincidence.
Very windy. Gusts in exposed areas almost blew you over. You had to brace your poles and walk low. Return via Bondcliff trail to the Twinway 0.6 miles.
Twinway to North Twin Trail 2.0 miles.
North Twin Trail to Trailhead 5.6 miles. After the first river crossing we stopped for lunch by the river in the beautiful sunshine. Big difference from top. We took a bushwhack to avoid two stream crossings.
Total mileage day 2: 8.2 miles.
