Ascent Trip ReportSome shade but mostly weedy grasslands hike. Best done in cooler months, October through March.
Peak is a long gently sloping ridge with communications tower on top. Expansive views of Mt. diablo to the east and SF Bay to the west. There are three other peaks to bag within a half mile, all with their own distinct character. The one to the north is dominated by two trees on top and would be an interesting place to picnic. Sun or shade, your choice. The peak to the west has nice views of the Bay. The peak to the south has a 20-foot rock pyramid on top and is really a boulder problem. Is this the only peak in the Bay Area that isn't a walk up? I found no mention of it in "Rock Climbing the SF Bay Area".
Other things to do in the area including wildflower viewing and fossil hunting. To hike to the very top you're supposed to have a permit from the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD). See EBMUD.COM or call 1-866-40-EBMUD.
