Ascent Trip ReportThe summit of Ruapehu is a long hard slog from Turoa side of the mountain with little respite unlike the Whakapapa side which offers the occaisional piece of level terrain. The climb was uneventfull but as inspiring as always. Made a little harder and frustrating because of the changing condition of the snowpack ice, brittle crust, soft snow and so on. From Tahurangi Craig Scot, Werner and myself went on to summit Mitre Peak leaving Girdlestone for another day. Weather clagged in creating white out conditions on the decent from the summit to the top of the chair lifts.
