Ascent Trip Report

Parked at Bootlegger Day Use Area at 0545 hr. Prehydrated with .750 ml of water; found the start of the AB Young Trail across Oak Creek and started hike at 0600 hr. (Head down the stairs at the south end of the parking lot, find an appropriate place to cross Oak Crk, then head up the steep ravine and look for the telephone poles by walking with Route 89A to your back, once found, look for the trail head sign, a rusty piece of metal: "A B Young Trail"). Topped out of the canyon at 0659 hr. and followed the well-beaten path to the summit which I reached at 0734 hr. There was no sign saying "Oak Creek" on summit plateau per hikers' blogs, but the path from the canyon rim to the fire tower is obvious and marked with cairns every 150-200 meters. Easy to follow. Fire Tower caretaker let me in and I enjoyed great views from the catwalk. Left summit at 0751 hr. Back down at the trailhead by 0900 hr. Great hike and other than tower caretaker saw nobody on trail. Consumed 1.5 l of water on hike and one RX bar.
