Ascent Trip Report

Keith and I climbed Mount Eddy in the morning, then drove over to Bunny Flat, paid the $25.00 per person fee, then backpacked up the trail to Horse Camp. From there, we followed a pretty good use trail to Hidden Valley, camping at its southwest end next to a stream. The next morning, we left for the mountain at 6:40 a.m. Keith and I put on crampons and got the ice axes out at the northeast end of Hidden Valley and went up the drainage to the saddle located between Shastina and Mount Shasta. We had one steep section of snow to climb; otherwise, the route went really well and the snow was just perfect for walking on. We left our crampons and ice axes just below the saddle and followed sand and talus up to the summit. Afterwards, we made our way back to camp, me plunge stepping and Keith boot skiing down the snow. On the way out, we had about one hour of rain and thunder.
