Ascent Trip Report

Most hikers take the Highline Trail from Logan Pass down to the Loop. We did the opposite, going up hill but also making the shuttle easier. It is possible to take one of the first shuttles of the day (7am from Apgar Visitor Center) to the Loop (most riders go to Logan Pass). The trail is obvious. We saw some bear scat about a mile or two up from here, but no bears. We had a nice stop at the Chalet (don't count on food or water here, but there is a pit toilet), then continued up the Highline Trail to Logan Pass. There was a lot of smoke from fires outside the park. Breathing was more difficult, views were hazy, and photos didn't turn out well. But, it was a nice hike. It is easiest to catch a shuttle from Logan Pass (rather than the Loop) back to Apgar. We lucked out and got a shuttle that was going all the way back to Apgar rather than making us transfer at Avalanche. Note that there is 1300' elevation loss with this route.
