Ascent Trip ReportMy first Sardinian summit, climbed after picking up hire care in Cagliari.
Leave SS125 at a cross roads, N39:18:14, E9:23:26. Drive N to Burcei, noting Serpeddi on the skyline as you approach the village. Waypoint N39:20:46 E9:21:14 will locate the correct road heading NE out of the village. This single track road degenerates into a dirt road after a few km and can be seen climbing towards the peak. It is steep and a little loose but driveable with no apparent restriction: several other vehicles encountered. Within 1km of the summit the road reverts to tarmac. I parked 750m short and walked the remaining distance.
The summit is bristling with masts - zona militaria - but there is a gap between the fenced areas, through which the summit can be accessed via an easy rubbly slope. It is an area of bare rock next to an old building. There were a couple of vehicles inside one of the compounds with maintenance work going on. The summit view is dominated by the masts but views are good, although rather hazy on the day I visited.
My GPSr at summit recorded N39.36676 E9.29669, Elev 1065m, agreeing closely with mapped elev of 1067m.
I then drove E and N to Monte Ferru which I climbed late that afternoon.
