Ascent Trip Report

Ughhh!!! Glad it's done! We backpacked in on Friday - and got lost looking for a bridge that no longer exists! We finally figured it out, and crossed the river just before dark. We set up camp after hiking up to a campsite in the dark - and getting throughly soaked and muddied! So much fun! We set out Saturday morning for Allen, and I came to the realization that my boots are not waterproof! We ran into some friends from home on the trail and after a short chat, continued on our way. We apparently missed the snow, but not the ice on the slide. After a quick cup of soup on the summit, we started our way back down and were quite relieved to pass the waterfall before darkness set in. Hiking through the unmarked area in the dark was a challenge! We finally emerged just after 8, to a beautiful clear dark sky full of stars and the milky way! What a nice reward! We wanted to try for Marshall or Cliff and Redfield the next day, but after sleeping in a bit too late (10am!) and some very wet feet, we decided to head back out. They aren't going anywhere... :)
