Ascent Trip Report

From Benedict Hollow Road on the northside of the mountain ...... moderate to moderately steep logging road, herd path and bushwack.

The Benedict Hollow logging road starts out heading generally southwest, after a short distance (pass a private home and go around a gate) stay left at the first main Y junction and cross the brook to the left (east) side. Continue up the Hollow always staying left at Y junctions, higher up the road deteriorates and becomes heavily overgrown with a good herd path, easy to follow (at this elevation, at the very south end of the Hollow, the path heads generally south), you'll have blue and orange flagging from time to time.
The heavily overgrown road ends at an intersection at about 2600'. I checked all directions and couldn't pick up the herd path ..... I started bushwacking without a real good sense of direction, the threatening morning skies finally started to produce rain, I was getting wet and it didn't look good. After processing all of the factors I decided to abort and leave it for another day ..... too risky, I was back at the TH after 3 1/2 hours, completely soaked and pouring heavy rain, a good decision .

From North of Bennington in Arlington, junction #7A/313, travel west on #313 for .6mi to a left on River road, travel another 1.7mi to a left on Benedict Hollow road which climbs up the Hollow (to the right side of the brook) to the TH at .6mi ... small parking on the right. This whole area (for logging and hunting) is private property and posted as such.
