Ascent Trip Report

Left Taos Ski resort at first light at 515 a.m. Weather was pleasant early on and having acclimated in The Santa Fe area for five nights I made good time ( for me) to the tree line. The signage is somewhat confusing because some private landowner ( who I understand is kind enough to let us cross the private lands) has all of these side trails marked which are not on the map issued by the Forest Service to me by mail 2 years ago. An updated map would be helpful though not essential - just remember the " Bull of The Meadow Trail" is the same as the trail ( I believe old trail #90 or 91) that you take to Wheeler.

Along the way, you, like I, can knock out Mount Fraser which is just a quarter mile and maybe 150 feet of elevation gain off the main trail. I reached Wheeler in 8 hours and ten minutes, but did not stay long, as a summer lightning storm had popped up nearby. I hustled down to the tree line and at about this point my legs were quivering, just gone. From there, I limped home to the truck completing the entire adventure in right at 13.5 hours. And yes I did accept a ride the last little bit to my truck from a gentleman who asked where I had been and remarked " you do not look so good."

Nothing that some fajitas at a restaurant called The Taosian or something like that and 12 hours of sleep in the Super * Motel could not cure.
