Ascent of Cowpen Mountain on 2009-10-03| Date: | Saturday, October 3, 2009 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Cowpen Mountain | | Location: | USA-Georgia | | Elevation: | 4151 ft / 1265 m |
Ascent Trip ReportLeft E. Cowpen Trail at ridgeline and bushwhacked up to summit. Lots of blackberries. When nearing the summit stay left of main blackberry patch for easier route to summit sign. Don't do like I did and go right, you'll regret it. On return I bushwhacked straight down slope back to E. Cowpen, instead of returning via flatter route from whence I came. This seemed to cut off lots of time, and also lots of blackberry patches. Was actually a very easy descent. If you'd like to try that route, I returned to the trail at a point where the trail meets a ravine which comes straight down from summit.
