Ascent Trip ReportA scramble up the south slopes to the crater's edge - a very neat, unique experience. This was not at all like most of my other climbs and quite different from scaling Mt. Adams just a couple of days prior to this. The volcanic sand and boulders are a little ecosystem in their own right - lots of unique plants growing on lower slopes. The ascent would be a long trudge if it didn't come with such great views and the chance to look into the crater where a new volcanic cone is actively growing. 1400 m elevation gain from the base.
