Ascent Trip Report

We were a party of 3 attempting Mount Saint Helens via the Worm flows route. The Climbers Bivouac was still closed as expected. The road to the TH is all clear of snow. There is a small section which is single lane only on SR 503 before Cougar, WA. We arrived at the TH by 10PM and slept in the parking lot/car. We started hiking at 4:15AM, hit snow 1 mile in and then snow all the way. There was a small section just below the 4800ft marker where we had to ascend up the rocky spine but you then drop back on to the snow very quickly before making it up to the earthquake monitoring station. There was then a solid boot-pack all the way to the crater rim. Crampons might be useful just below the summit as there were some icy spots but not absolutely necessary. I summitted by 11AM and hung around for 1-1.5 hours till the rest of my party arrived.

The descent is essentially an epic glissade all the way from the summit till near the flat area before chocolate falls. From there its a slog back to the TH which we reached by 4PM.
