Ascent Trip Report

After picking up my parents from the airport and eating breakfast, we dove straight in to hiking. We went to the parking lot for the summit trail of Squaw Peak and were able to get a spot, although the lot was almost full. It was about 8:30am and in the mid 90Fs. I carried a pack, so that neither of them had to. Mom used her hiking poles. There were predictably many people on the trail. One guy passed us and then we passed him before he caught back up and then decided to give up. He said he didn't drink enough water this morning. It was then we noticed that he didn't bring any with him either! We moved steadily up the mountain and I created water stops for my parents, handing them their water bottles. Near the top an exhausted young couple were hiking down and they said that they *should* have brought water! For the last twenty vertical feet my mom had to stop using her poles and we scrambled up to the summit. We had a decent view, but there was a haze all over during this pollution warning day. We started down after just a few minutes on top because we had errands to run and a time to be back by. On the way down we saw a lizard with a flat round belly and a chuckwalla. The car was pretty hot at the bottom, but not unbearable.
