Ascent of El Montanon on 2009-09-05
|Date:||Saturday, September 5, 2009|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Motorized Transport to Trailhead:||Boat|
| Elevation:||1808 ft / 551 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis is a very exposed hike with little to no shade, but with spectacular views of all of Santa Cruz Island, the CA coastline, and Anacapa Island. The trail from Scorpion Harbor to the ridge is maintained and easy to follow. The trail along the ridge to the summit is rough but easy. The summit holds an antenna making it easy to always know where you are going.
Past the summit you can follow the ridgeline east and bushwack your way down into Smugglers Cove. Mostly scrambling down the very crumbly terrain and a few dry waterfalls. Very fun.
