Ascent Trip ReportDrive up to the N-S ridge of Tuscarora Mountain and a super lookout at the High Point.
Coming from the East, Chambersburg at I81,exit 16 (south Harrisburg) travel West on hwy #30 (Lincoln Way) for approx 20mi to the top of Tuscarora Mountain Ridge at Cowan's Pass, elev 2123'. The Mountain House Bar and Grill is on the left (south) side, behind it on top of a peak are two launching wooden platforms for Hang Gliding and to the right is Aughwick Road. Drive the paved Aughwick Road north .9mi to a gravel Tower Road on the right, follow it for 1.2mi to the High Point ....... the road dead ends at a large turn-around circle, on the right is a communication tower, scarried uo two deer, the High Point is at the top (north) of the circle ......... A small clearing with remnants of an old foundation, all wooded except for an oustanding lookout to the East.
We went to check out the trails for Wills Mountain on hwy #220, I had limited information. No luck, decided to move on and leave it for another trip. We drove to a private campground in Front Royal, VA. at the north end of the Shenandoah Skyline Drive.
