Ascent Trip Report

Via trail that starts about a mile below Maljovica Hut. With guide Miglena Varbanova, from motoroads.com. This hike took about 7 hours altogether. Anyone who enjoys 4000-footers in the White Mountains or Adirondacks would have a good time hiking in Bulgaria. The trails are marked well, and the mountains are spectacular! Bulgaria has mountain ranges all across it. I was very glad to have a guide to deal with language issues and to do the driving. We stayed at a small hotel in the village of Govedartsi, and enjoyed home-cooked-style dinners every night. This particular trail goes up through two separate bowls of a glacial cirque up to a ridge, then curves around up to the summit.
