Ascent Trip Report

Hike up from Spruceton Rd trailhead and back. Elapsed time: 4:10. Hiking time: 3:50. Total distance: 6.4 miles. Total elevation gain: 1988 feet (includes a bit up and down on the way over the east peak).

We parked at the last official trailhead parking area. The hike up to the falls was enjoyable and uneventful. Once on the Devil's Path, we didn't run into any issues until above 3000 feet, when isolated patches of ice slowed us down some. We still made the summit in excellent time. Spent about 20 minutes exploring the summit, eating lunch, taking in the views and pictures. Arrived at the summit in exactly two hours. The hike back down was slower, complicated by the ice patches. Once we cleared the ice, our pace picked up and we got back down swiftly. Great views along the route, aided by the lack of leaves on the trees. Spring is now officially my favorite time to hike in the Catskills.
