Ascent Trip Report

With guide Pete Shelley and four other climbers and one non-climber who stayed in camp on summit day. I was permitted to join an established party who had decided to rent horses to ride the 19(?) miles to our base camp near Upper Titcomb Basin. The horses were actually fun and saved us a day each way and a lot of wear and tear also. We spent a day acclimatizing and admiring the scenery -- Mt. Helen just above our camp. The next day, we started up the valley to Dinwoody Pass in the dark. It was light by the time we reached the pass -- then descended onto the very wet and solid glacier. We crossed the first glacier, then went across some rocks to Gooseneck Glacier -- climbed up it and crossed the bergschrund to the summit ridge. It was dark and we got quite strung out on the way back to camp -- I sat up in the dark watching the shooting stars for quite awhile afterwards.
