Ascent of Katahdin on 1986-08-31
|Date:||Sunday, August 31, 1986|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5268 ft / 1605 m|
Ascent Trip ReportOvernight at Chimney Pond (mother and baby moose hanging around) -- up Dudley Trail to Pamola, across Knife Edge to South Peak and Katahdin Proper -- around to Hamlin Peak and down gradual ridge to Chimney Pond again. The next day took "Blueberry Ridge" trail into the next glacial cirque to the north. No one else was around -- the isolation was splendid. In our three days in Baxter, I saw two people with hiking boots where the sole was ripping off at the toe -- I had never seen that happen before.
