Ascent of Flagstaff Mountain on 2009-08-23| Date: | Sunday, August 23, 2009 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Hi-Clearance Vehicle | | Peak: | Flagstaff Mountain | | Location: | USA-Washington | | Elevation: | 4255 ft / 1296 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI approached from the NE. Cross the bridge out of Northport. Take the L on the good gravel road towards Sheep Camp. Turn L onto lesser FS 950 at an engraved post that says "FLAGSTAFF LO". This road is somewhat steep and rocky in a few places. Might be tricky in a low clearance vehicle but there is no need for 4WD. The road improves as it flattens out at 3500'. At the saddle at 3800 is a gate which was open on this day. A very old dirt road on the left at a flat area might offer an alternate ascent road if the main road is gated. A fire lookout is on the summit though it is currently unmanned. Highest ground is near the newer tower shack. No access issues.
