Ascent of Red Top Mountain on 2009-08-23Date: | Sunday, August 23, 2009 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | Peak: | Red Top Mountain | Location: | USA-Washington | Elevation: | 4640 ft / 1414 m |
Ascent Trip ReportFrom Leadpoint take the county road that is marked with a large sign "Iroquois Mine Road". Pass a few shacks and as long as you are on the county/FS road there are no access issues. Lots of mines up in the area but none right by the summit as far as I can tell. Ascend the road just as mapped. The road is passable to low clearance although it becomes two tracked with high weeds at 3700'. Ascend to 4400 or so to the NE of the peak. From here light brush and cross country travel will get you to a forest summit. No particular difficulties or pleasures involved with this one. I think the highest ground is a little bit W of the center of the contour.
