Ascent Trip Report

Day hike took around 3 hours total to summit 3 named peaks and one sub peak all on a trip from the marshland at El 100 above the Atlantic Ocean eventually to the summmit of the highest peak on Mount Desert Island (Cadillac). The trip was over 4 miles of climbing up the steep faces of Champlain Mtn., Huguenot Head, Dorr Mtn, and finally Cadillac Mountain. The trip reports of those climbs are listed separately. The final ascent of Cadillac was obtained by the Notch Trail which was only a moderate ascent climbing up a series of granite slabs.

Great views from the periphery of the summit in all directions but loaded with tourists that drive and park to view. This trip erases my earlier 1999 car summit with the family which i had to redo with a bonafide ascent. My favorite part of the entire route was the views off Champlain along the Precipice Trail and the valley between Huguenot Head and Dorr. Very steep climbing and fun.

We were challenged to do the last three mountains with only a cup of water left between the three of us. We overcame this challenge by finding tons of blueberries along the way. We ate probably 2 cups of blueberries picked per person as we hiked and we found a spring coming out of the side of Dorr that we filled our bottles and drank as a reward at the summit of Cadillac.

Total Gain data:
Parking at 100 feet above sea level.
Summited Champlain Mtn at 1058 above sea level.
Descended to saddle between Huguenot Head and Camplain at 650 feet, then summitted Huguenot at 720 feet (additional gain of 70 feet) then...descended to the tarn at EL 90 feet.
Descended down to 1040 on Gorge Path Trail then final ascent of Cadillac to Summit at 1528 (final gain = 488)
Total gain thus, 958 + 70 + 1280 + 488 = 2796.
