Ascent Trip Report

I began the climb from the Ziria Plateau at 9:40 am, just 10 walk from Refuge B. The trail is well marked all the way to the summit. The Refuge was locked up with no one else around. As I neared the summit, I spotted a small herd of horses, which I later found out are wild. I reached the summit in just under 2 hours with an elevation gain of 834 meters. The sky quickly changed from totally clear to most cloudy in approx 30 min. I didn't mind getting relieve from the sun as the entire climb so far was exposed to the sun. Unfortunately, the views were somewhat limited due to the haze. My goal was to traverse the mountian from east to west and then cirle back around at 1300 m to 1600 m level. I then decended into the Farmakilias Ravine. This ravine was more rugged as well challenging than the ascent. The topo map indicates a faint path which I never really found. I am sure I didn't decend the prescribed way and had to deal with a lot of thorny scrub and steep talus slopes. There was another herd of wild horses as well sheep and goats. Near the mouth of the gorge I met an older gentlemen who spoke very little english. He told me the horses were wild. I guess because I looked a bit wiped out he offered to drive me down in his jeep. I felt I couldn't refuse so I jumped in. Unfortunately, the ride only lasted 10 min until we reached the dirt road that circles the mountain and he was going the other way. So I began the last leg, which inclded gaining about 300 meters of elevation and 9 kilometers distance. I arrived back at my car at 4:15 pm.
