Ascent Trip Report

I had hoped to bag the summit of Burnt Mountain when I was doing Mount Oglethorpe the same day, but both access roads on the north and south sides were gated and posted. I must admit that this does not always deter me from making a quick grab and go, but the distance from the gates to the summit was, at least, a mile. That's a long time to have your car sitting out in a suspicious place near a posted gate. If you are bolder than me, the southern approach is probably the best. The northern approach is from a busy road and there is no parking easily available. The southern approach is from the access road on Monument Road to Mount Oglethorpe and it is much less traveled and does have a parking spot. My motivation was not high enough to make a serious attempt, since the sun had already set, it was snowing and Burnt Mountain is not the actual Pickens County high point anyway.
