Ascent Trip Report

Did Wakely after Bald Mountain, it was quite a drive into where we could park and then hike. The trail again was pretty wet and didn't see anyone on this hike. It was a nice gradual hike in the beginning however as we got closer to the peak the weather got very nasty. So we quick climbed the tower and I have no fear climbing towers as I grew up near Kane Mt and climbed it weekly. When I got near the top of Wakely I just couldn't go up the stairs to the top, it did not look safe and the board on the tower were not like any of the other towers we had climbed. We ran back down and it began to hail. The temperature changed and dropped at least 30 degrees! Luckily the rangers cabin was unlocked and we were able to take cover for an hour while it stormed. After this I learned to be prepared for the weather to change in the adirondecks in minutes! We went back down the mountain and there was still hail all over the mt, it was amazing. As we got near the bottom it began to pour so we started running and luckily we were only about 5 minutes from our car...it was quite an adventure!
